9 Days Kenya Wilderness Trails

Kenya Safari Itinerary - 9 Day wilderness trails

Day 01: Nairobi
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you will be met by an Alliance Safaris representative for briefing and transfer to your Nairobi Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 02: Nairobi – Meru
Pass the Equator and the cool central highlands and descend to the wildlife rich northern savannah woodlands. You will pass the scenic Meru forest before snaking up the Nyambene Hills. Descend into the Meru conservation area, checking in at your hotel in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Dinner and Overnight at Camp or Lodge.

Day 03: Meru
Full day in the Meru National Park with both morning and evening game drives or a full day in Meru National Park with picnic lunch in the wild.
Meru National Park is one of Kenya’s least visited reserves, despite having a great deal to offer. The park is part of the domain made famous by the writings of Joy Adamson and the epic story in which Elsa, the famous lioness, was returned to the wild.

Of all the Kenya parks Meru presents the widest variety of landscapes and habitats. Forest, swamp and savannah are pierced by a number of rivers all rising on Mount Kenya and all destined to reach the Tana River which forms the park's lower boundary. In this marvelous sanctuary a great variety of wildlife exists. All the 'Big Five' are present and the park is one of the best in which to locate cheetah and leopard. High precipitation levels means that the area is covered in thick grass, jungle and marsh, sometimes making game hard to spot. On the other hand, this only adds to Meru National Parks’ wild, untamed atmosphere.

Day 04: Meru – Elementaita
After breakfast, depart from Meru driving through the central highlands. You will pass by the Thompson falls and drive down the scenic rift valley escarpment before finally checking into the Soysambu conservancy in time for lunch.

Soysambu Conservancy is pristine wilderness area. Featuring volcanic hills, rolling plains, and dense acacia woodlands, the Conservancy also includes a substantial part of Lake Elementaita, the ancestral home of 1.2 million flamingos and their attendant cast of pelicans, cormorants, waders and storks. Within the shelter of the crater, wander large herds of buffalo, within the acacia thickets graze the rare Rothschild’s giraffe, and across the plains bound an ever-shifting kaleidoscope of plain’s game. Long protected from the impact of mass-tourism, the Conservancy also provides sanctuary for a wide range of predators, including the shy and secretive leopard.

Day 05: Soysambu Elementaita – Lake Nakuru
Depart from the Soysambu Conservancy after breakfast heading for the Soysambu conservancy and head for Lake Nakuru National Park. The Lake Nakuru ecosystem comprises of the lake, surrounded by mainly wooded and bushy grasslands. The park supports a wide ecological diversity with Flamingos (Greater and Lesser) and other water birds being the major attractions of the area. The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals including the white rhino and buffaloes and a variety of terrestrial birds numbering nearly 450 species. Lunch will be at Lake Nakuru. Return to your lodge early afternoon for a well deserved rest.

Day 06: Soysambu Elementaita – Masai Mara
Early breakfast and depart your camp heading for the world famous safaris destination, the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will drive into Masai land passing through the Kedong and Suswa plains making a stopover at the Masai town of Narok. Continue towards the Masai Mara arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive.

This is probably one of Kenya’s most visited reserve with an extraordinary density of animals including the Big five and many other varieties of plains game. The Mara River cuts through the Mara and Serengeti eco systems giving life to the both reserves before finally pouring out into the Lake Victoria.

Impressive and most notable is the wildebeest, zebra and gazelle instinct led migration from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya. This journey is coupled by numerous obstacles which makes it even more magnificent.

Day 07 & 08: Masai Mara
Spend two complete days in the Masai Mara options of having Morning and evening game drives or full day game drives. This Masai Mara reserve is famous for the vast herds of migrating wildebeest which culminates with the grand finale crossings at the crocodile infested Mara River. This is an annual spectacle led by biological instincts in search of greener and fresher pastures.

Day 09: Masai Mara - Nairobi
After breakfast, depart the Masai Mara. Enjoy extra game viewing in and out of the park as you drive through the plains and the floor of the Great Rift Valley arriving in Kenya’s Safari Capital city of Nairobi early afternoon where your safari ends.
